Giant Tortoise Osteoderms – Leg Armor Plates

These are three fantastic, well preserved giant tortoise leg armor plates from the Pleistocene. This is from Hesperotestudo, a massive tortoise that was once native to both North and Central America. These fossils are usually pretty well preserved due to the density of the bone. These are quite heavy for their size and nearly indestructible. They are probably the least fragile fossils currently listed on this shop.

Eocene Parrotfish Mouthplate Fossil Collection

These fossils are from an extinct type of parrotfish that was roaming around Florida in the Eocene, long, long before even the iconic megalodon was roaming these same seas. These are beautiful and often colorful reef fish today and the type that these belonged to likely was as well. The fossils are incredibly well preserved considering their age, which is closer to the age of dinosaurs than to us.

Coprolite Fossil Collection | Three Pieces of Fossil Poop

This is a collection of three coprolites; fossilized poop from the Pleistocene age over 10,000 years ago. Exact ID of the animal which left them is unknown. These types of specimens often contain bone fragment such as snake vertebrae, fish vertebrae, gar fish scales, etc, which leads me to believe that these may often be from alligators.

Rare Petrified Fossil Stick Collection

This is an incredibly uncommon fossil from Florida. Petrified wood is not common here at all, but completely petrified sticks that look almost like a modern stick you would see on the ground? Very rare. This listing is for two remarkable specimens that I personally found here in Florida. The preservation is unreal. When I first found these, I didn’t think they were fossils, but they are indeed completely turned to stone, very heavy and sound like ceramic or china when tapped together.

Giant Armadillo Osteoderm Fossil – Bony Armor Plate

This is a piece of the shell of a giant armadillo like animal called a pampathere. Their shells are made up of thousands of these that lock together. This species is Holmesina septentrionalis, a fantastic Pleistocene animal that went extinct at the end of the ice age along with so many other megafauna. This particular osteoderm is in great condition.

Camelid Toe Bone Fossil | Pleistocene of Florida

This is a toe bone fossil from the camelid Palaeolama or Hemiauchenia. These llamas were iconic Pleistocene mammals which roamed around North America until the end of the ice age about 10,000 years ago.

Llama Fossil Collection – Leg Bone, Toe Bone & Teeth

This is a collection of llama fossils from the Pleistocene of Florida. We have the distal portion of a large metapodial, a toe bone, a premolar and a molar. This is an excellent starter fossil collection of an iconic ice age mammal. These fossils are from either Palaeolama or Hemiauchenia. Exact ID between these two genera of camelids can be difficult, especially on bones. All are personal finds from Florida.
