This shark tooth lot has iconic shark teeth in it. A colorful great white, a tiger shark, and a ‘lesser white’ shark (ancestral to modern day great whites).
The lesser white is often called a mako by many collectors (including myself in many videos I’ve created), but it is quite clear from a number of sites that these sharks eventually began adapting to preying progressively upon more and more mammals such as dugongs, small whales and others. In a number of sites of the correct age, we actually see these normally unserrated teeth getting small amounts of serrations. As time goes on, the unserrated lesser white teeth are no longer found and there are only great whites. This shark simply adapted to a different diet over time and turned into the iconic ‘Jaws’ that has captivated our society. The other teeth include a tiger shark tooth and snaggletooth, both in good condition.
