This is an amazing partial fossil jaw section to a huge American alligator. The tooth sockets still have partial teeth inside, along with an unerupted replacement tooth still stuck down inside of it. The preservation on this piece is very good and the details are incredible.

The larger tooth in this lot is a ‘lesser white’ shark, ancestral to modern day great whites. These are often called mako shark teeth by many collectors (including myself in many videos I’ve created), but it is quite clear from a number of sites that these sharks eventually began adapting to preying progressively upon more and more mammals such as dugongs, small whales and others. In a number of sites of the correct age, we actually see these normally unserrated teeth getting small amounts of serrations. As time goes on, the unserrated lesser white teeth are no longer found and there are only great whites. This shark simply adapted to a different diet over time and turned into the iconic ‘Jaws’ that has captivated our society. The other teeth include a lemon shark tooth and a tiger shark tooth, both in good condition.

This is a pretty uncommon find: stingray mouthplate pieces still fused together. This was located in Florida and was deposited during the Miocene epoch.
